Week to remember

Last week was one to remember for sport in Buckley.

McDonald’s FAW Trust Community Football Awards

On Thursday night, at the McDonald’s FAW Trust Community Football Awards (North East), our Junior counterparts were presented with the Club of the Year Award, proudly represented by Chairman and Club Secretary, Kev Holden and Emma Iball.

Our Junior Chairman has been quick to recognise the overall efforts of all stakeholders of the club, ‘After winning this prestigious regional award, we are automatically given the chance to win the Club of the Year Award across the whole of Wales.

This is something we should all be proud of and is in recognition of all managers, coaches, parent reps and everybody who contributes to the club.  Well done!’

Under 19s Team

As part of our ongoing commitment to provide a pathway for our Junior players to move into senior football, this season has saw the implementation of an Under 19s boys team come into fruition.

We have successfully integrated the majority of last season’s Under 16s squad into our senior set up, a few of which have had experience of first team and reserve football already this season.

Sunday saw our Under 19s take part in their first competitive fixture, despite a 2-0 loss, this marks a huge step forward for our football club and the football community within Buckley.

Our first team manager, Dan Moore, had this to say, ‘having worked with our Under 16s of last season for a period last year, I knew that it would be vital to retain as many of them as possible, they’re a good group.

We’ve already seen a number of them play in our first and reserve teams this season and this is a trend we expect to continue, and hopefully we now have a big piece of the jigsaw in place for years to come.’

Buckley Cricket Club Success

Also on Sunday, our Cricket Club saw their Under 13s boys team lift the Welsh Cup.

Under 13s coach and former Buckley Town player, Rhys Jones, commented, ‘We played 5 knockout rounds before finals day on Sunday.  We beat Carmarthen in the semi final by ten wickets (they beat us in the finals last year so that was nice!), and then an immense performance saw us beat Newport in the final. Easily the best day and feeling of my life!’

From everyone at Buckley Town Football Club, we would like to congratulate our friends at Buckley Cricket Club on this achievement, and for their continued progress and success in providing a top class environment for young players from the area to enjoy their sport!’

FAW Trust National Programme | Huddle

Buckley Town JFC are proud to announce that we have been selected to host the FAW Trust National Programme ‘Huddle’

Huddle is designed to introduce girls aged 5-12 to football in a fun, friendly and social environment, giving more girls the opportunity to get involved without the pressure of joining an official team or feel the need to be good at a sport.

Huddle will be delivered for a course of 12 weeks, every Thursday 6 – 7 pm, starting the 12th September in the indoor sports hall at Buckley Leisure Centre. The focus of these sessions will be on fun activities that develop the girls’ football skills through gameplay, whilst also increasing confidence.

To register your place for Huddle or for further information, please contact our Huddle Coaches

Preseason Update

Under 16 Integration

We are pleased to see that last season’s Under 16 boys team have made the step up into our Under 19 / Senior set up going into next season, this has been a long time coming, years overdue!

Indeed, the retention of these players has enabled us to enter a new Under 19 team into the Flintshire Youth League for next season, and this is something which we are extremely proud of.  This is the first time the Club has provided a pathway for an outgoing Under 16 boys teams to continue to play football at the Club, and will hopefully be the stepping stone needed for our young players to successfully move from Junior to Senior football.

We had a number of our Under 16 players training with our Senior squad last season and we’re looking forward to working with them all over the coming season, providing them with an opportunity to continue their development with us and hopefully we will see them all represent our First and Reserve Team squads over the course of the season ahead.

Squad Update

To keep things simple, as Coaching Staff, we have retained all those players who we wished to retain and have added three players to our squad.

We are pleased to announce that midfielder Lewis Cunliffe has returned to the Club, Lewis started the season with us last season and we were sorry to see him leave, Lewis’ circumstances are now different and we hope to have him with us for a bit longer this time around!

Also joining the Club are forwards Sam Spridgeon, most recently of Oswestry Town, and Pat Hinchcliffe, most recently of Denbigh Town.  We’re pleased to have been able to add both of these players to our squad, both will add competition to our squad on a footballing front, and most importantly are great people.  Pat is the nephew of our former player and Cymru Alliance-winning Geoff Hinchcliffe, who I know is fondly remembered by many of our long-standing loyal support!
