Dan’s Season Review

Today marks the day of our final fixture back in the Huws Gray Alliance, two short years on from our unwelcome relegation to the Welsh National League, as we welcome Penrhyncoch to The Globe.

By comparison, we find ourselves in the luxurious position of mid-table mediocrity this time around, and also in a period of calm, compared to this time last year whilst in the thick of a tense title race with Brickfield Rangers, we all know what happened there!

On the football front, we have seen some excellent progress over the course of the season.  It is important not to lose sight of the fact that the vast majority of our playing squad is made up of our WNL title-winning squad of last season, with just a handful of new additions, this is something which we are very proud of, the players have made the step up and more than competed!

Another factor to be proud of is the progression of our ‘one club’ approach towards team selection, twenty players have represented both the first team and the reserve team this season; with the integration of nine 16 & 17 year olds into our senior squad being the icing on the cake, we are focussed on nurturing and growing our future first team players internally.

The season has been full of highs and lows, and a lot of ‘what ifs’, I dread to think where we could have finished this season if our games ended in the 85th minute!  But we can’t be overly critical of our players, they have given everything and shown unbelievable commitment.

The future is certainly bright for our Club, we have an excellent group of Under 16s who I have worked with intermittently this season alongside their manager, Ste Jones, we look forward to integrating them into our senior setup over the summer.

Not to mention all of the exciting off field developments which we hope will secure the future of our Club for all of our young players to enjoy for generations to come (no exaggeration!).

Finally, to our supporters and volunteers, you are the best.  Please know that we appreciate you turning up week after week, there are faces which we see every single week and we’re overwhelmed by your loyalty.

We hope that we’ve given you something to be proud of over the last couple of seasons.

See you all next season!
