Yet again these two well matched sides put on an entertaining game that was only settled late on with Airbus running out victors.

Buckley opened the game the brightest and Jake Roberts had a good chance early on but it was Airbus that took the lead when Steve Tommasson scored after 35 minutes.

They made it two with a Sam Hart strike on 57 minutes. It looked like Airbus had done enough in easing themselves ahead and the match would pitter out but it was then turned on its head by two pieces of individual brilliance by Buckley Town players.

First, just seconds after Airbus had scored their second, centre back Chris Roberts chanced his arm from some 20 yards inside his own half. The ball sailed high but true in the wind and found Airbus keeper Dave Roberts all at sea, as he back peddled to try and desperately keep the ball out. He didn’t succeed and all of a sudden it was 2-1.

With the wind at their backs Buckley were now in the ascendancy and full of renewed hope. They won a free kick on the edge of the Airbus box and Jake Roberts stepped up and hit an absolute stunner into the top corner with a fine strike (see video).

Buckley took the game to Airbus and it looked like they would crack under the pressure. Buckley had a great shout for a penalty but the referee declined the appeal and then with Adam Eden clear in on goal the linesman raised his flag to pulled the play back. Suffice it to say, neither decision went down well with the highly vocal travelling support and they made their opinions well and truly known.

Airbus weathered the storm and if you are going to win the league, you have to find a way to win these sorts of games. Buckley pushed Airbus close earlier in the season at the Globe, only to fall behind late on in the game and so it was here. With 7 minutes remaining Airbus broke out and Ryan Edwards found the back of the net to break Buckley hearts.

Airbus will now probably go on and win the league and good luck to our local rivals but they will look back on these two games with Buckley and know they were pushed oh so very close. The six points gained will be instrumental in their season.

We must take the positives, of which there have been many, from these two games against Airbus and take them into our remaining fixtures, as we seek the highest possible finish we can attain in the league. Next up Rhyl at Belle View.
