To all at Buckley Town Football Club, and our Club Sponsors

We hope we find you well.

As we approach Christmas 2020 and the end of what can only be described as a rollercoaster year, it’s time for a quick re-cap and a huge heartfelt ‘Thank You’ for your continuing efforts and unwavering support for our club.

March’s national lockdown and subsequent local lockdowns presented, and continue to present, massive challenges for us all, and as we continue to find new ways of working we are constantly changing plans for BTFC. It’s extraordinary that everyone has remained so positive, and the whole Management Committee is extremely grateful for your ongoing help and support.

From a club point of view, there have been some big changes in 2020 and we continue to move forward. Without a doubt, the biggest news was the merger of the Junior and Senior sections of the club. For the first time in BTFC’s history, there is now a clear path from Mini through to Senior football, building players from 6-16 to play in the Cymru Leagues and/or play at a higher level in the UK or elsewhere. We have also continued to grow our Girl’s section and are committed to introducing a Ladies’ senior team in the future. The Veterans continue to prosper.

Amidst the pandemic’s turmoil, the Clubhouse at The Globe has been refurbished and upgraded, thanks in no small part to the work of our indefatigable volunteers and club sponsors. Having already hosted junior team presentations in the summer, social events for the senior section and meetings for Coaches, this fantastic space will become the hub of the Football Club and the improved facilities have already started to make a big difference. We look forward to a busy schedule of activity… when we’re finally allowed to!

Player and Coach development continues to be a driving force for everyone and is at the heart of everything we do. The Club structure now includes ‘Heads of Phases’ to help support our coaches and players of all ages and as we move forward, we will continue to support our players on and off the field.

Our volunteer base is now the biggest, the best, and the most dedicated group of volunteers in the whole of north Wales and of course no mention of our volunteers would be complete without saluting the ‘FAW Grassroots Volunteer Of The Year’, Club Secretary, Emma Iball, a national award that is fully deserved and we are all immensely proud of her, and thankful for all her hard work.

Community Engagement continues to be a key focus, with successful clothes collections, and the Flintshire Foodbank and Superkids toy collection in time for Christmas. The generosity of the people of Buckley never ceases to amaze us, and will have made a big difference for people in need this Christmas.

For all the positives, we have also had to endure some tough times, none more so than the extremely sad passing of our friend, Linda Hughes. For years Linda devoted so much time to the football club as a parent rep, and she will be sorely missed by everyone. Our deepest condolences go out to Nathan and her friends and family.

So… 2021. In an uncertain world we will continue to push the club forward and there are exciting things already in the pipeline; the new badge design competition is well underway, there will be new kits for all, and the dream of a 3G pitch in Buckley is being actively worked on. The Senior team returns to JD Cymru North action in January and we look forward to all our teams being able to play some competitive football as the year moves on.

The Management Committee will be publishing the Football Club’s business plan in early 2021, which will define the club moving forward.

All that is left to say is… Thank You. The commitment and time that you have given throughout the course of the year is remarkable. It is you that makes Buckley Town Football Club such a special place.

We wish you and your families a happy and healthy Christmas, and we look forward to seeing you all at The Globe in 2021.

Take care and stay safe.
