Buckley Town vs Conwy

There are some rules of the game that you learn at a very young age: do not stop until the whistle blows; and do not give away silly free kicks in and around your own box. If you do, you will be punished.

Conwy Borough broke the first of these rules for the first goal of the game. When the ball broke free down the right channel from a tackle in midfield Aled Bellis found himself in the clear. Unsure, he looked around waiting for the whistle to blow. It did not come and whilst the protests rang out from the Conwy players, Bellis squared the ball to a thankful Shaun Tinsley who tapped it home.

Buckley had dominated most of the play and Conwy did not look that dangerous apart from well directed header that hit the post in the first half. So it continued into the second half and Buckley looked comfortable with their lead but you simply cannot switch off in this or any other league. Buckley were in the midst of of an attack down the left side with Adam Eden flying down the left wing to deliver the best cross of the game. Conwy cleared and broke out themselves with the ball eventually falling to their player down the side that Eden had vacated. Joe Makaruk was forced to come off his line but in going to ground to block he brought down the Conwy player and the referee had an easy decision to give a penalty. He was sent the wrong way by Corrig McGonigle and it was 1-1 very much against the run of play.

And we come to the second of those rules. This time Buckley were the guilty party giving away a free kick late into the half that they did not need to give. The resultant free kick was whipped in by McGonigle, striking the post and rebounding across the line. This time Conwy were quickest to react and Cory Williams pounced to net the rebound. Buckley had been sucker punched and it hurt.

Buckley did get the ball in the back of the net when striker Ryan Jones forced the ball home from a right sided cross but like in all games nowadays any challenge that involves a keeper seems to go their way.

So we move on again, another lesson learnt for our young squad and we welcome Borras Park Albion to the Globe in the 2nd round of the NEWFA Challenge Cup on Bank Holiday Monday, 27th August with a 2:30pm kick-off.
