The 2003-04 season commenced with a friendly game played against Chester City at the Globe, for whom ex-Buckley player and local lad Danny Collins had recently signed and great crowd helped raise some much needed and to raise the profile of the club in the local area. The season itself saw some ding-dong battles with both Airbus UK and Bala Town who were both also clubs in the ascendancy at that time.
Having been runners up the season before in the Cymru Alliance cup final, this time the club went one better at Mold Alexandra’s Alyn Park beating Wrexham club Lex XI in the final.
In the Cymru Alliance league Airbus UK were the runaway winners but Buckley Town pushed them hard in the games played both in that competition and the NEWFA Challenge cup, a game which Buckley won on penalties at the Globe, going on to reach the final yet again. It was a period when the final of that competition just seemed to be a given. There Buckley Town met Bala Town at Cefn Druids Plaskynaston ground, who were a side very much on the rise from the Welsh National League and a club with which a fierce rivalry would develop over the coming seasons. On that day the cup went to Bala and the dye was set for what was to come over the next couple of years.
