There is a chronic shortage of Referees across Welsh football and games are being cancelled every week because of it.

To try and boost numbers the FAW is offering courses, so if you love football and want to be a major part of the game in Wales why not become a referee?

Not only do you get the best seat in the house and get to give back to the game but you could also earn money too!

In the local junior leagues, you can get paid from £18 a game on a Saturday morning. For the adults’ game fees start at £25. The higher up the league pyramid you officiate, the greater those fees become.

The courses offered are as follows:

  • Advanced course – £80 (including full kit and accessories (approx. 10 hours of online learning time, plus attendance at a one-day practical session).
  • Leaders Award – £20 (approx. 2-3 hours on-line learning time and allows successful candidates to Referee junior football).

More information is available on the website: www.becomearef.wales

The North East Wales Football Association (NEWFA) are also holding a number of face to face meetings at Brymbo Sports Club, Tanyfron, Wrexham in an attempt to give any potential referees out there as much help and information as is needed to guide them through the process of applying for and passing the advanced referees course.

The course as is stands is an online course and costs £80, this includes the online course, a full matchday referee’s kit with accessories, ie, flags, whistle, notebook, and cards.

As well as having all the above, you will have the full support from NEWFA and the Referee’s Officer Steve Jones in particular.

The NEWFA is looking at holding these introduction evenings on Thursday 16th January, Thursday 30th January and Thursday 13th February 2020.

The meeting would start at 7:30 pm and last no longer than an hour.
