Aled Bellis scored Buckley Town’s only goal very late on in the game as the side went out of the JD Welsh Cup at the 3rd round stage. The team had a long journey home after being beaten comprehensively 3-1 by Pontardawe Town.

You have to wonder however if the outcome of the game would’ve been so different if Buckley had taken the three chances, they had in the first 10 minutes. In that period of play, Buckley was certainly on top.

Phill Molyneux had a chance to score but for once was outmuscled in front of the goal. Then what appeared to be a perfectly good goal was overturned by the linesman for a foul on the goalkeeper. This was a harsh decision as there did not seem to be any contact. The next chance came when Callum Humphreys had a goal disallowed for being marginally offside.

From that moment on Pontardawe seemed to grow in belief and slowly took control of the game.

The hosts were a yard faster and were able to find their men and win most of the second balls.

From then on Pontardawe took control of the game and their Craig Davies marshaled their defence giving Buckley very few chances.

In the second half, the game was killed off as the hosts had three chances and scored from two of them.

Buckley’s consolation goal came from Alex Bellis very late on in the game so it’s back to league action for a Buckley Town after a very disappointing display.
