A battle against the elements as much as against each other with a howling westerly gale blowing down the ground that ended with the spoils even. Whoever had the wind at their back had the advantage as it made it difficult to clear your lines and the ball kept coming back. Battling against the wind meant the ball spent as much time in the air as it did on the deck and also made for tired legs as the game went on.

It was Buckley that had the advantage in the first half and it was they that managed to score first when they won a free kick 25 yards out. Aled Bellis floated the ball to the back stick where Lewis Hone rose like a Salmon to head the ball back across goal and into the net with a well-directed header.

There was no more scoring until the second half when Conwy drew level catching Buckley cold almost from the restart when Guto Hughes levelled on 47 minutes.

With the winds at their backs Conwy were able to get a foothold in the game yet both sides at least tried to play football in the difficult conditions. Buckley found it difficult to get beyond the half way line but when they did, they looked dangerous and with a fast break they took the lead.

The ball found its way out to the left wing where Adam Eden took on the Conwy defence. Beating two defenders he was able to get almost to the bye line where fired the ball across goal for Shaun Tinsley to get on the end with a well taken strike on 62 minutes.

The wind seemed to get stronger as the game went on and Buckley found themselves having to defend more and more. It seemed like they would hold out to take the points but Conwy to their credit did not give up. Yet it was not until the 88th minute that they levelled the game with a Conor Harwood goal that left Buckley disappointed not to have closed the game out.

At the end of the day, a point on the road at any club in this league is a good one, especially where you have battled well to obtain it and shown great determination in doing so. Buckley again played in front of fantastic travelling support for which we are grateful. It means a lot to the players when the Buckley faithful outnumber the opponent’s supporters. It also helps the home club from a financial perspective showing that we not only support our own team but grass roots football in general.

On a final note, it was sad to see that the stand at the far end of the Y Morfa ground had been demolished due to structural issues. It helped enclose the ground and gave Y Morfa the distinctive look of a proper football stadium. In order to comply with FAW Tier 2 Criteria Borough took the decision to demolish the stand and it will now be replaced with a new 200 seat structure. We wish Conwy Borough success in this venture and that they can find all the funding necessary to complete this task as soon as possible.
