As previously in the season Buckley Town found it difficult to deal with the physicality of Denbigh Town who tried to make it difficult for them to play any kind of passing game on a hard and dry pitch as a result of a lack of recent rain. The result was not a pretty game to watch with the ball in the air more than Buckley would have wished.
Buckley did open the game the brightest of the two sides and had their best period of the game for the first half hour. It was during that period Aron Williams was able to break free down the right and crossed for Jake Roberts. From his challenge in the air with Denbigh’s skipper Toni Davies the ball fell to Shaun Tinsley’s right ten yards from goal. He lifted the ball over defender Stu Vernon’s head to get the ball onto his left side and fired the ball home past Craig Vernon in the Denbigh goal with a left footed strike.
The second half was played mostly on the back foot as Denbigh came straight out of the dressing rooms looking for an equaliser. The best chances of the half fell mostly to Denbigh but on the occasions, they were able to get decent shots in on goal, Buckley captain Joe Makaruk was there to make the save. He made two good stops on either side of his goal diving at full stretch to turn the ball away for corner kicks.
The last few minutes became increasingly about Buckley Town holding on to what they had with Denbigh throwing everything into a final blitz to try and win something from the game, even sending the keeper up for corner kicks. Buckley held firm and earned another three points away from home. Denbigh will now have to battle to retain their place in the league with three tough games remaining at Rhyl and at home to Holywell and Llanrhaeadr.
