Buckley played Penycae again for the second time in less than two weeks as we contested the penultimate match remaining in our league programme for this season.
The opening goal was scored with an impressive header by Aron Williams as he rose near the 18-yard line to steer Jake Roberts’s corner kick past the keeper at his right-hand post. Luke Blizard then took the home side into a comfortable 2-0 lead with another powerful header before halftime.
Adam Eden took the Claymen into a 3-0 lead with a powerful run down the right-wing that saw him cut in and strike a powerful shot that beat the keeper at his near post. With that Buckley relaxed, changes were made and the only real danger of complacency in the Buckley ranks plus Penycae’s perseverance led to them scoring a goal from a poorly struck back pass by Luke Douglas that keeper Joe Makaruk simply could not get out of goal quick enough to smother.
This seemed to wake Buckley up and they hit the cross bar on a number of occasions prior to Rob Jones scoring to put the tie beyond doubt and give Buckley the win they deserved.
The three points gained took Buckley 7 points clear at the top meaning that they now only need a draw in Saturday’s tie at home to nearest rivals Brickfield Rangers to claim the League title.
