Grassroots football cannot operate without a vast army of volunteers, tirelessly working behind the scenes to make things happen. At Buckley Town Football Club we are lucky to have a remarkable group of amazing people who spend countless hours helping to make our club special. This year Emma Iball has been recognised on a national level for her dedication to our club, being named ‘Volunteer of The Year’ in the 2020 FAW Grassroots Football Awards.
Technically, Emma is ‘Club Secretary’ but there are very few areas of the club in which she has not been involved. From matchday steward to player registration, coach to football mum and everything in between Emma has brought boundless enthusiasm, an eye for detail, and a ‘can-do’ attitude that just gets things done. Emma has been a committed volunteer at Buckley Town Juniors for over 15 years and more latterly at Buckley Town FC as club secretary. This award is hugely deserved, recognising as it does, her continuing devotion to Buckley Town Football Club.
Buckley Town Football Club Chairperson Pete Gunson commented, “Another fantastic achievement for Buckley Town FC, this time a personal award!! Buckley Town’s secretary Emma Iball has been awarded Volunteer of the Year by the FAW and their Grassroots Football Award panel, sponsored by McDonald’s Emma works tirelessly in her pursuit of putting the club on the map and making sure everything runs like clockwork. If it’s not organising Comet, Emma will be busy making sure that all paperwork, staff, and team members are all in order.
The club has gained many additional volunteers over the past couple of years, but Emma has gone the extra mile and has been rewarded with a well-earned award, one for the whole club and herself to be proud of.
I would like to add my personal thanks to Emma for everything she does for the club, everybody involved in Grassroots Football knows that it just wouldn’t happen without an army of people who give there precious free time to ensure the wheels keep turning. It could be described that Emma is at the helm making sure the club continues in the right direction!
On behalf of the Buckley Town FC and myself, congratulations Emma, a massive well done for your achievement and recognition for your hard work, I’m sure there will be many more!!!”
Kevin Holden, Chairperson of Buckley Town FC Juniors said, “Club Secretary Emma Iball’s FAW McDonald’s Grassroots Volunteer of the Year Award is a remarkable achievement, and this prestigious award is thoroughly deserved after many years of selflessly putting the club, children & staff at the forefront of everything she does. I can’t think of anyone who deserves this more than Emma… Well done, we are all immensely proud of you.”
